![]() Weirdly, the 90s pop singer Lisa Stansfield has a supporting role and is actually pretty good at it. Much of that is down to the cast, which is anchored by two big stars-Jane Seymour and Juliet Stevenson-and bolstered by a stable of talented, well-known actors including Denis Lawson, Alison Steadman and Richard Armitage. But 'Ordeal' is actually cohesive and entertaining in its own right. Color me 'non-refreshed.' Until this episode, 'Ordeal By Innocence.' Now, I'll grant you that I've not read Christie's source material for this episode, however given the telewriters' butchering of Christie's work in several other episodes, I can well believe complaints of a hatchet job here, too. In the 5-6 Marple episodes I've seen before this one, the changes are largely absurdist or tacky or both. To be 'refreshing,' a change has to be, you know, good. To the reviewer who berates the legions of us appalled by most scripts in this mid-2000s reboot of Agatha Christie's detective novels and stories: 'new' is not synonymous with 'refreshing ' as you put it. ![]()

He won't sell you a wand or mix you a potion, but if you know what you're looking for, he might just be able to help. In the heart of Camden, where rail meets road meets leyline, you might find the Arcana Emporium, run by one Alex Verus. Books this good remind me why I got into the storytelling business in the first place' Jim Butcher, author of the Dresden FilesĬamden, North London. Fated is an excellent novel, a gorgeously realized world with a uniquely powerful, vulnerable protagonist. I just added Benedict Jacka to my must-read list. ![]() 'Harry Dresden would like Alex Verus tremendously - and be a little nervous around him. There is a nice history to this world that involves the The Gate Rune War. It’s different enough to be different but you still can’t help but compare. The start of a compelling new urban fantasy series based in Camden, featuring Alex Verus - a mage with a dark past who can see the future. Fated, and I assume the whole series of Alex Verus, is set in London and so you will immediately compare this to Rivers of London. ![]() ![]() ![]() This was not the only secret her parents kept from her. To the contrary, they deliberately hid it from her, and she did not learn of it for half a century. The incident quickly faded from her memory, and her parents never discussed it. In just over 150 pages, Echeburúa summarizes the fundamental aspects of a particularly human and painful phenomenon. The psychologist just published a book entitled Death by Suicide. “Silence is the worst thing, because many people don’t talk to them, even their social circle of neighbors and friends, because they don’t know how to approach, which leads to social isolation,” Echeburúa continues in a video call conversation. “The first thing is make it easier for the family that has lost a child, or the person who has lost their partner, to unburden them, to be able to talk about it,” he explains. Enrique Echeburúa (San Sebastian, Spain, 72 years old), Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), says that when a suicide occurs, there are other victims beyond the deceased, and they do not receive adequate support. ![]() |
